Consul General Prakash Gupta paid an official visit to Jiaxing on 8th December, 2016. During the visit Consul General called on Party Secretary H.E. Madam Lu Jun and discussed ways and means to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Jiaxing. An Annual Plan of Cooperation for 2017 covering political, economic, commercial and cultural exchanges was also discussed with Jiaxing leadership. Since Wuzhen (located in Jiaxing) has hosted the World Internet Conference, it was also discussed that an event focusing on the Indian IT industry along with an India Culture Week would be organized in the second half of 2017 in Jiaxing.
2. Consul General extended an invitation to Jiaxing Party Secretary H.E. Madam Lu Jun to lead a high level investors delegation from Eastern China region to visit India later next year and requested them to encourage Chinese investments into sectors like Infrastructure, Urban Transportation, Renewable Energy and Hi-tech industries, taking advantage of the policies being offered to foreign investors under the Make in India campaign.

Earlier in the day, Consul General also visited Eidmem Environmental Tech Company, which specializes in offering environmental protection solutions, in particular in waste water management and green technologies. During the visit, Consul General also interacted with CEO’s of 15 Chinese companies based out of Jiashan (county level city within Jiaxing) and gave them a detailed presentation on the investment opportunities and guidelines available in India. Most of the Chinese company participants were from Machine Tools, Green Technologies, Switchgears and Power sectors and it was discussed that in March next year, they would undertake an exploratory visit to India to seek opportunities for investment in industrial zones in India. A list of investment opportunities available in India till 2017 along with MII publicity material (in Chinese) was also distributed to all Chinese participants.
4. Jiaxing (located at an hour’s drive from Shanghai) is an important industrial hub in the Eastern China region. Recently there has been considerable focus on establishing Wuzhen (county level water town prefecture within Jiaxing) as the hub of internet and IT industry, as the recent three World Internet Conferences have been held there. As a follow up to Consul General’s visit, it is expected that Jiaxing Party Secretary will lead a delegation to visit India early next year. Presently, 11 Indian companies including Thermax and Sundram Fasteners have their manufacturing units based out Jiaxing.
