Anil Kumar Rai

Anil Kumar Rai is a career diplomat from the Indian Foreign Service. He has served in various capacities in Cairo, Kuwait, Dhaka, Headquarters and the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva.

Details of diplomatic assignments undertaken so far include:

  • 2001- 2003 diplomatic training and assignment in the Gulf Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
  • 2003-2006 at the Indian Embassy in Cairo, looking after Press & Information and cultural work. 
  • 2006-2009 at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, looking after commercial and consular issues.
  • 2009-2012 at the High Commission of India, Dhaka, looking after economic cooperation and developmental assistance programmes with Bangladesh.
  • 2012-2014 at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi in the Development Partnership Administration handling India’s developmental assistance programmes.
  • September 2014-October 2017: as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of India to United Nations at Geneva, looking after India’s engagement with organisations like UNOCHA, UNHCR, UNISDR, IOM, and Multilateral Environment Agreements along with Administration and Finance of the Indian Mission.

Anil Kumar Rai was born on 25 April 1973; holds post-graduation in Geology and Water Resource Management and is married to Harshita Rai and have a son, Prathmesh Rai (16 years). He speaks English, Hindi, Chhattisgarhi, Bhojpuri and Arabic.
